Meet my beautiful Nonna (grandmother), to the left. At the start of COVID my Nonna's memory started to decline. As I spent more and more time with her I realized she was forgetting things and when my parents brought her to the doctor they did tests and said she's just getting old. It was only when her memory was really bad and she was forgetting to take her medications and forgetting people in her family that the doctors tested her again and diagnosed her with Alzheimer's disease.
They said there was not much for us to do as they define Alzheimer's as "incurable." I felt really disappointed with our healthcare system and thought, there must be something that I can do as a healthcare provider. Witnessing the suffering my parents continue to go through with my Nonna just made me think there must be a way to get ahead of this disease before its too late.
I took the initiative to take an online course called RECODE (reversal of cognitive decline) by Dr. Bredesen. It opened my eyes as I learned that there are healthcare providers out there that are getting ahead of this disease with success rates of up to 85%. I knew this was where I needed to be to be able to help my family and others who suffer from memory loss or even mild cognitive decline. This course taught me a whole new outlook on dental hygiene and how I can really make a difference in people's lives by using an integrative dental hygiene outlook. I took this course and am now proudly certified in the RECODE training.
